The Department of Biomedicine/Administration Centre at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a Laboratory Technician within cancer research as per 1st of October 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a permanent full-time position.

We offer a vibrant international research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas within Biomedicine. We contribute to the Bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the Master’s degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Our infrastructure is well developed with modern laboratories, core and animal facilities. You will work either in the brand new ‘Skou Building’ or similar as we are in the process of modernizing our old facilities. You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

You will be working in The Laboratory for Gene-Regulatory Mechanisms in Cancer, which aims to explore the interplay between genetics, epigenetics, and non-coding RNAs in the development and progression of cancer. Recently, we have started to explore the functional role and clinical potential of a newly described type of non-coding RNA, the circular RNAs, in brain tumors, colon cancer, hematological malignancies and inflammatory skin diseases. Your job responsibilities

As Laboratory Technician, your primary tasks are laboratory work and assisting with purchase of lab consumables etc. You will contribute to the overall functionality of the lab through helping PhD, Master students and postdocs as well as undergraduate students and you will assist in setting up new protocols in the lab. In your daily work, you have a close interaction with competent colleagues, and you will have many different tasks during the week. You will be part of a very motivated and social research team.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Research support within specific areas
  • Supervise/helping students getting started in the lab
  • Sparring about technical details and new protocols
  • Administrative responsibilities
  • Tools, systems and IT
  • Project work
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration

You will report to the Associate professor Lasse Sommer Kristensen.

Your competences

You have a background within biomedical research or are a very skilled and motivated person that recently graduated. Experience with PCR and qPCR based techniques, molecular cloning, histology and in situ techniques, extraction of nucleic acids, library preparation for next generation sequencing, cell culture work, RNA interference, and western Blotting/protein analysis will be considered an advantage but not a requirement, as there will be colleagues to train you. We expect you to be motivated, willing to learn and to thrive in a working day with many different tasks.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
