BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

Aarhus University, Department of Food Science, offers a 3-year position at the post doctoral level within the area of cellular agriculture, starting 1. December 2023 or subject to mutual agreement.

Area of work

Cellular agriculture is a way to produce components and biomasses typically obtained from livestock by using culturing techniques. The Department of Food Science has a portfolio of research projects within cellular agriculture, which focus on opportunities and challenges within cultivated milk and meat. One challenge is to achieve sustainable cell culture media e.g. through the delivery of bioavailable nutrients from sustainable sources.

This project focuses on establishing a platform that will provide nutrients from efficient and scalable extracts based on microalgae and yeast. The aim is to, among others, use chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis to provide the nutrients required for cell growth and long-term maintenance. The nutrients will be tested in the muscle and mammary cell platforms in collaboration with the other partners in the SusCellFood project. In addition, work includes milk secretion assessment by using e.g. mass spectrometry based methods for secretome proteomics.

An extraction procedure will be developed and nutrient compositions and secretome proteomics will be characterized by state-of-the-art HPLC, GC-FID and mass spectrometry facilities (e.g. ICP-MS, LC-ESI/MS single Q and/or nanoLC-TimsToF). The successful applicant will be part of the Science Team ‘Food Chemistry’

Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in a relevant area e.g. food chemistry, food science, molecular biology, molecular medicine or similar
  • Science communication skills proven publication record in international peer-reviewed journal
  • Documented experience in molecular biology techniques and protein chemistry including GC-FID, HPLC, ICP-MS and MS proteomics
  • Preferably knowledge of media and cell culturing
